What Are The Backlinks?

The reference links of any website incoming to a webpage or website can be treated as backlinks. It can also be told that those incoming links of other websites are backlinks for a website or webpage we are dealing with. Commonly they are also known as inbound links, inwards links, inline links and incoming links.

What Can Backlinks Do For Your Website?

They help to increase traffic through incoming links from other sites. In past years, they were used for referencing purposes during the development stage of search engine, but now they have become a strong part of SEO. Backlinks can also make wider visibility of your website contents. They improve the page rank in the search engine and give more visibility of your website and its contents in the search engine. As a result, they generate more traffic when people are getting quality searching with the search engine.

What Can Be The Different Types Of Backlinks?

You can find so many types of backlinks, but Nofollow Backlink and Dofollow Backlink are the two primary types of Backlinks.

  • Nofollow Backlink provides the traffic without increasing the page rank and boosts SEO in Non-organic traffic form.
  • Dofollow Backlink provides traffic with increasing the page rank and boosts SEO in Organic traffic form.

There is also a good list of different backlinks as I have tried to put them together:

Article Marketing:
Websites who offer posting short articles on a particular subject to show their proficiency and these articles are distributed for others to get information from here. Examples on Ezine Articlesand GO Articles.

Blog Comments:
Leaving comments on different blog posts. Examples on TinyHouseBlog.

Like the yellow pages where a list of sites are found by category. Examples on Yahoo! Directory and Open Directory Project.

Forum Comments:
Making comments participating or on in a forum. Example: Tycoon Talk. It is also difficult to leave a backlink in the forum, as often-human moderated forums are available.

Guest Blogging:
Writing post contents of other persons’ blog.

Industry Partner/Associations:
Having links in your industry from other businesses. Example: American Rental Association can qualify for backlinks at RentalHQ.

Link Bait:
Some post content, which solely exists for encouraging others to link back to the website. Tips and tricks, jokes, rumors, tools, videos, pictures, widgets and more are some types of link baits.

Link Exchange:
Some post content, which solely exists for encouraging others to link back to Link Exchange. Check on Wikipedia for more details.

Link Swap:
It is not actually helpful for SEO or IMO. Link swap is keeping a link in one website in the condition to have the opportunity to keep back one on that website.

Press Release:
Press Release is an announcement in the news media to pick the PR by other sites. Examples: PR Newswireand PR Web.

RSS Feeds:
Really Simple Syndication or RSS feed permits manufactures sharing content with the subscribed users.

Social Bookmarking:
A person’s favorite sites managing site whose favorite lists are publicly available and tagging features. Examples of some top social bookmarking websites are Diggreddit and Delicious.

Web 2.0/Social Profiles:
Web 2.0 is social profile sites like Weebly, Squidoo, Quizilla, etc. and information sharing sites who lets create profiles or websites free for the users. It is similar to article marketing.

Webmaster Outreach:
Communicating webmasters and convincing them via email or phone to keep a link in their sites. It is not an easy task to make a webmaster convinced freely to promote your website.
